On Saturday night, IBF welterweight champion Devon Alexander (24-1, 13 KO’s) will look to make the first successful defense of his title when he meets up with Colchester’s Lee Purdy (20-3-1, 13 KO’s) inside of the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City.

Having seen a scheduled fight with British star Kell Brook fall through on three separate occasions, Alexander may very well end up facing his countryman Amir Khan next instead.

The latest rumors have Khan, a former champion at 140 pounds, eyeing a move to the welterweight division for his December 7th return, possibly against Alexander.

Speaking to select members of the media on Thursday afternoon, Alexander isn’t paying too much attention to the reports but seems to have no issues with such a fight.

“I’m staying off the internet fight week, so I haven’t heard the rumors yet,” stated Alexander. “You know, I don’t like to talk about my future until I get past my obligations May 18th. But if he wants it, he can get it too. I don’t think he wants that, for real.”

Khan didn’t look spectacular in his last outing, winning a unanimous decision over former titlist Julio Diaz on April 27th in a fight in which he was dropped in the 4th round and hurt in the later rounds.

Asked for his take on that specific performance, Alexander seemed to completely dismiss the Bolton fighter.

“Every guy that Amir Khan gets in the ring with who’s elite or at the top level, he loses or gets knocked out,” said Alexander. “For him to think he can have a shot at me, that’s good. I’m open to that fight of course. And I will definitely take him down if the opportunity comes. It doesn’t matter.”
