As seen in a Facebook update on Saturday, Nov. 9, pound for pound boxing star Floyd Mayweather expressed his sympathy and concern towards the Philippines amidst the tragedy of Typhoon Haiyan.
“My thoughts and prayers are with everyone in the Philippines,” Mayweather stated.
Following his message, Mayweather also posted a link to a CNN article that highlights the damage that has taken place thus far in the city of Tacloban and the province of Samar.
Estimates indicate that the death toll could very well have reached 1,200 people or even more. Official tallies state that 138 people have lost their lives, with 14 people injured and four being counted as missing.
The storm is said to have affected over 4.3 million people in 36 separate provinces.
Mayweather used to draw ire from Filipino fans due to his comments in the past regarding a potential fight with one of the nation’s icons, Manny Pacquiao.
And while such a fight now appears to be an afterthought, it was a kind gesture for Mayweather to show his sympathy during such tumultuous times.
