On Saturday night, May 16, WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin added another scalp to his ledger, as he defeated tough contender Willie Monroe Jr. in the sixth round of a wildly-entertaining fight.

Following his victory, Golovkin (33-0, 30 KO’s) continued to express his desire in facing the biggest names as soon as possible.

There certainly are no shortage of viable options for Golovkin, whether you are looking at WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto, former junior middleweight titlist and Mexican superstar Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, or even Floyd Mayweather, who holds titles at 147 and 154 pounds.

Speaking with manager James Prince a few hours after Golovkin’s victory over Monroe, he actually pointed out another option for the Kazakhstan star.

“Congratulations to Golovkin,” stated Prince. “I think Golovkin belongs to Andre Ward.”

Ward, the man considered the world’s best at 168 pounds and in some people’s eyes the #2 man in the sport, presently has a June 20 return lined up with UK star Paul Smith.
