With no announcement of a Floyd Mayweather vs. Manny Pacquiao having yet taken place, the boxing world continues to sit on the edge of its seat for any kind of news.
For reigning WBA junior welterweight champion Jessie Vargas, he still is holding on to hope that it is he, not Mayweather, who ends up dueling with Pacquiao.
“I wanted it,” says Vargas of a showdown with the Filipino icon. “I still want it. I fought three southpaws in a row; there’s a reason behind it. I’m well-prepared for any southpaw now. It doesn’t matter who.”
“I have to sit down with Bob Arum, my manager Cameron Dunkin,” Vargas added. “We’re going to sit down soon.”
If Mayweather vs. Pacquiao does happen, Vargas doesn’t expect it to go down until possibly this September.
“I think it’s a very interesting fight,” Vargas affirmed. “It might happen in September to give it time. It seems like it’s too close for that May fight to come, but who knows.”
