This weekend will see top contender Carson Jones step back into the ring, as the Oklahoma City native will be following up on an April victory over Mikel Williams.
Jones’ 38-11-3 record with 28 knockouts is very deceiving, as he started his career at the age of 18 and was thrown to the wolves early, suffering some early setbacks that ended up becoming learning lessons.
Jones is known best to some for his spirited effort against IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook in July of 2012, where he rallied late and hurt the UK star in his own backyard. Jones dropped a majority decision that night and was stopped by Brook in their rematch in the eighth round.
Jones was able to pop up for a pair of notable fights in 2015, again returning to the UK, where he stopped contender Brian Rose in the first round in February of 2015 while dropping a unanimous decision six months later.
Jones has returned back to training inside of Abel Sanchez’s Summit Gym in Big Bear, Calif., alongside his friend, lineal middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin. Golovkin faces off with Brook on Sep. 10 on HBO.
