Pacquiao faces off with Tim Bradley in a crucial rematch on April 12 in Las Vegas while Cotto looks to be all but locked in for an intriguing showdown with Sergio Martinez on June 7.
Not only will Cotto be training alongside Pacquiao, but it appears that he will likely be sparring with him to help him prepare for Bradley as well. Pacquiao also has some similarities to Martinez given each man’s awkward southpaw style. Continue reading →

While at yesterday’s media brunch in Los Angeles advance of this weekend’s welterweight title clash between WBO champion Tim Bradley and Mexico City’s Juan Manuel Marquez, Top Rank CEO Bob Arum discussed the future options of Puerto Rico’s Miguel Cotto.
This past weekend in Orlando, Fl., Cotto returned to HBO’s airwaves with a scintillating stoppage over Delvin Rodriguez in the third round. Cotto was in rare form, as he ripped the Dominican’s body relentlessly while breaking him down with sharp, powerful blows.
After having two fights co-promoted by Golden Boy Promotions in 2012, Cotto returned to work with Top Rank, his original promoter dating back to his pro debut in 2001, for the Rodriguez match and it looks like a strong possibility that he will finish his career with the company.
Arum seemed extremely upbeat when discussing Cotto’s options, pointing towards a match with lineal middleweight champion Sergio Martinez in particular as a fight worth making. Arum also discussed the possibility of a showdown with former junior middleweight champion Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez. Continue reading →

This past weekend, Puerto Rican fan favorite Miguel Cotto made a resounding return to the ring by dispatching former title challenger Delvin Rodriguez in under three rounds at the Amway Center in Orlando, Fl.
Showing vintage form in what turned out to be more of a showcase bout on HBO’s airwaves as opposed to a real challenge, Cotto (38-4, 31 KO’s) ripped Rodriguez’s body early with abandon and left him dazed at the end of the second round after a whistling left hook caught his temple.
The end came moments into the third frame, as Cotto pounced on the lanky Dominican along the ropes before dropping him to the canvas with another potent left. Seconds later, referee Frank Santore Jr. would waive the contest off.
While much of the talk at the post-fight press conference and within boxing circles centered around the possibility of Cotto facing either lineal middleweight champion Sergio Martinez or Mexican superstar Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez in the future, those weren’t the only big names in the play.
