On Tuesday, Aug. 4, it was confirmed that Andre Berto has indeed been selected as Floyd Mayweather’s next opponent for his Sep. 12 pay per view in Las Vegas.
Mayweather announced the news on his Instagram Page and while Berto, who has gone just 3-3 in his last six bouts, may be a heavy underdog, his trainer Virgil Hunter sees no other choice then to go into the bout with full confidence.
During an exclusive talk with Hustle Boss on Tuesday night, Hunter revealed that he isn’t focusing on how to break the “Mayvinci” code as Mayweather likes to call it, and is instead looking at what his charge brings to the dance.
“You have to make it as simple as possible,” Hunter explained. “Take what you have and display it with all your might and go from there. I don’t think it’s good to go into a fight with Mayweather with a game plan. I think it’s good to go into a fight with MAyweather to simply have a game plan for your guy to execute.
“Because I think it’s good to go into a fight with Mayweather to simply have a game plan for your guy to execute and not a game plan to beat Floyd Mayweather,” Hunter added. “Because I think it takes all types of intangibles and all types of connections. I think the simplest way to approach it is ‘How bad do you want to win?’, ‘What are you willing to sacrifice to win?’ and what works for you all these years when you are having success, are you willing to employ that over time?'”
Hunter sees a tough task at hand and knows Berto must be mentally prepared for everything.
“Are you ready to handle the rough roads and the rocky moments?” Hunter asked. “Are you able to handle the media, the crowd? Everything that goes into a Floyd Mayweather fight.”
