On Monday, Sep. 7, I saw a familiar face walk through the doors of City Athletic Boxing in Las Vegas.
Maricela Cornejo is back in town for a brief visit, fresh off of her biggest victory to date as a professional. Cornejo improved her record to 4-1 with 2 knockouts on Aug. 15 when she scored a commanding ten-round unanimous decision over Latashia Burton.
The bout, which took place inside of Mana Studios in Miami, Fl., saw Cornejo capture the vacant WBC international super middleweight belt with her victory.
A few years ago, Cornejo suffered the only loss of her pro career against Tiffany Ward and she seemed unsure of what the future held. A move to Miami has helped restore Cornejo’s spirits and all you have to do at any time of the year is pay a visit to her personal Instagram page to get a sense of how sharp she is looking.
Cornejo made a point to return to Las Vegas upon winning her belt, as she made sure to show her old coach Floyd Mayweather Sr. her new strap. No word yet on her official return, but stay tuned to Hustle Boss in the coming weeks for more news.
