A few months removed from a ten-round whitewashing of Phil Lo Greco in Atlantic City, welterweight contender Shawn Porter (21-0-1, 14 KO’s) feels ready for a step up in his career.

Heading into his match with Lo Greco, a fight that took place underneath Lucas Matthysse’s 3rd round drilling of Lamont Peterson at the Boardwalk Hall, the 25-year old Porter knew he needed to shine.

After all, in his previous fight we saw Porter pushed to the limit over ten rounds against for two-time lightweight champion Julio Diaz in a fight he was expected to win handily.

Against Lo Greco, Porter was quick with his hands and feet, easily beating his Canadian foe to the punch while registering a knockdown in the tenth and final round that served as an exclamation mark to his victory.

WBC interim junior welterweight champion Lucas Matthysse has been blessed with the biggest opportunity of his career as his Sept. 14 clash with WBA/WBC champion Danny Garcia was recently announced to great fanfare.

Fighting as part of the Floyd Mayweather-Saul Alvarez Showtime pay per view event from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Matthysse will have all eyes locked on him as he looks to derail the streaking Garcia while announcing himself as the man to beat at 140 pounds.

Over the weekend, a source from within Matthysse’s camp reached out to HustleBoss.com to give us some updates on Lucas’ mindset and his early training.

“I saw Matthysse and he is very happy with the fight,” revealed the insider. “He speaks in the ring; he doesn’t like to speak on Twitter.”

The night of Friday, July 19 will likely be stuck in Mickey Bey’s head for quite a while.

Facing off with the always-rugged John Molina Jr. inside of the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino, Bey had boxed an excellent fight over the course of nine and a half rounds before a barrage of punches from Molina had him in trouble.

Despite still standing on his feet, referee Vic Drakulich would jump in to stop the fight with a little over a minute remaining, granting Molina with the improbable comeback victory while Bey was dealt his first defeat.

In the post-fight aftermath, a frustrated Bey expressed his displeasure with both Drakulich’s officiating throughout the contest as well as his opinion of what he felt was a premature stoppage.

Speaking with Bey’s trainer Floyd Mayweather Sr. after the match, he too expressed his frustration but was unsure whether or not Drakulich reacted too fast in granting Molina with the TKO victory.

On Friday night, inside of the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, aspiring middleweight Luis ‘Cuba’ Arias kept his career momentum going with a six-round decision over Philadelphia’s Latif Mundy that saw his record rise to 6-0 with 3 stoppages.

Arias came out of the gates strong, ripping Mundy with some telling shots to the body and head, but soon realized that he would be in for a longer night than expected given his opponent’s grit and experience.

With another victory under his belt, Arias will have little time to rest, as he seems all but set to begin helping his boss Floyd Mayweather in training for his Sept. 14 clash with Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez.
