In the city of Las Vegas, things are meant to catch your attention.
One of the most sought after models in the city in recent years, Chelsea Dawn may have the ability the turn some heads, but there is more to her story than one would imagine.
While stereotypes run rampant due to the nature of her profession, there has always been something else that stood out to me about the St. Louis native, most notably the tireless work ethic she has shown in making a respectable name for herself while on the scene.
With a year having passed since we last corresponded, I found it fitting to catch up with Chelsea on the eve of the first edition of the The Boxing Life.
Read on for more from Chelsea on what the past 12 months of her life have encompassed as well as thoughts on how she keeps her head while dealing with the ins and outs of her fast-paced profession.
Catching up…
“Over the past year, I have enjoyed shooting for several magazines of various genres. I’ve continued to stay extremely busy with model bookings, and have even done a little acting here and there. Not too long after we last spoke, I landed a principle role in Think Like a Man Too. I had a blast working on my scene with Kevin Hart.”
In control…
“I feel very fortunate to have a job which allows me to meet so many people, dabble into a variety of industries, and travel to other parts of the world. It’s also nice to get to pick and choose which bookings I take. I don’t have a boss or a corporation controlling me. For the most part, I get to make my own schedule.”
Keeping pace…
“My schedule is insane. I’m a bit of a workaholic. Sometimes I work three or four gigs per day. I don’t have anyone managing my schedule for me. I completely manage myself, without help, and it can be tough. Not ever having normal sleeping or eating patterns, having to wear high heels often, and sometimes working in extreme conditions can be very hard on my body.”
A special kind of city…
“Las Vegas is often considered the Entertainment Capital of the World, the Boxing Capital of the World, and possibly the Convention Capital of the World as well. What I love about working in this city is that we have all of this, without the population and traffic of big cities like Los Angeles and New York.”
Dealing with stereotypes…
“I dread getting asked the question ‘What do you do for a living?’ I anticipate all of the false assumptions that come to mind when they hear I’m a model. Some can be quite ridiculous. When someone doesn’t know, they assume. It’s natural. I try not to let the negative stereotypes bother me. I know the truth about myself, and I don’t need to prove it to anyone. Most people don’t know about my artistic talents, academic achievements, volunteer and charity work, cooking skills, my event management/marketing/business sense, or even my sense of humor. There is much more to me than what I choose to reveal to the public via social media.”
A path of her own…
“I could have moved to L.A., Miami, or New York City and signed with a top agency. I know I have the potential to be doing much bigger and better things. But I am content where I’m at. The most important things in life to me have absolutely nothing to do with my career.”
Thankful…
“When I look back on this chapter in my life, I will be incredibly thankful for the opportunities I have been given. The amazing cities, restaurants, sporting events, concerts, and various events I have attended will not be forgotten, nor will the influential people I have gotten to meet and work with. Hopefully someday I’ll get to tell my children and grandchildren ‘Hey, I used to be kind of cool back in my day.’ ”
