The rigorous training and learning lessons continue for Damien “Sugar” Vasquez.
Vasquez last saw action inside of the ring this past October in Glendale, Ariz., where he clearly defeated Javier Lapizco over eight rounds to move to 8-0 with three knockouts. Still just 18 years old, Vasquez has since been honing his skills under the tutelage of respected trainer Nonito Donaire Sr., and it’s evident that he is still very much learning and blossoming as a fighter.
Hustle Boss was on hand for some very spirited sparring between Vasquez, who captured the NABF junior flyweight title in his sixth pro fight, and top contender Joebert Alvarez from the Philippines.
Alvarez (14-1-1, 6 KO’s) is a very capable and strong fighter, with his only loss being a ten-round decision to WBA/WBO flyweight champion Juan Francisco Estrada in December 2014. Alvarez is getting ready for a March 19 return in Puerto Rico against WBC Latino flyweight champion Jonathan Gonzalez and he received some top-notch work from Vasquez, as he eyes his own return to the ring.
