Ever since its launch in March of last year, the Premier Boxing Champions franchise has left quite an imprint on the sport.

Also known as “PBC” to boxing enthusiasts, Premier Boxing Champions features fighters under the umbrella of powerful manager Al Haymon competing with one another.

On Tuesday, Mar. 29, Damien “Sugar” Vasquez took to his personal Facebook Page to update his fans with some news.

As reported by Hustle Boss earlier this month, Vasquez will be facing off with tough veteran Lorenzo Trejo on May 7 in Longmont, Color. in a stacked card. Vasquez (8-0, 3 KO’s) captued the NABF junior flyweight belt in just his sixth pro bout and will be putting his strap on the line against Trejo (35-31-1, 22 KO’s) in a matchup that has been long overdue.

When I caught up with Damien “Sugar” Vasquez recently in Las Vegas, he was putting in some tough work with  top contender Joebert Alvarez from the Philippines.

At the time I was unsure of any set return date for Vasquez, but it appears now that the 18-year old NABF junior flyweight champion has something lined up.

The rigorous training and  learning lessons continue for Damien “Sugar” Vasquez.

Vasquez last saw action inside of the ring this past October in Glendale, Ariz., where he clearly defeated Javier Lapizco over eight rounds to move to 8-0 with three knockouts. Still just 18 years old, Vasquez has since been honing his skills under the tutelage of respected trainer Nonito Donaire Sr., and it’s evident that he is still very much learning and blossoming as a fighter.

Still just 18 year s old, Damien “Sugar” Vasquez has already left an impression during his early run as a professional.

Having turned pro at the age of 16 in August of 2013 down in Cancun, Mexico, Vasquez presently stands at 8-0 with 3 knockouts as a professional. That run included him collecting and defending the NABF junior flyweight belt that he won in just his sixth pro bout.

Interesting pairing in Las Vegas as young Damien ‘Sugar’ Vasquez begins working with Nonito Donaire Sr.

I have to admit it’s been a pretty fun ride covering the career of young Damien ‘Sugar’ Vasquez out here in Las Vegas.

Vasquez has went from a 15-year old amateur who turned heads in the city to where he is now, undefeated at 18 years of age and having captured the NABF junior flyweight title in just his sixth pro bout.

When we found out that Damien “Sugar” Vasquez was set to be a part of the Premier Boxing Champions movement, we knew it marked a significant moment in his young career.

We began hearing about Vasquez back when he was just 15 years old and making a name for himself in the city by sparring some veteran pros at the time. Vasquez made his pro debut down in Mexico at just 16 years of age and he began racking up the wins as his career has progressed.

It’s been a few years since I first crossed paths with Damien Vasquez.

Then just 16 years old, there was a special kind of underground buzz about Vasquez at the time, with some claiming that the young Colorado native was even going heads up in sparring at the time with seasoned professionals.

There are few prospects in the game like Damien ‘Sugar’ Vasquez.

Still just 18 years old, Vasquez (7-0, 3 KO’s) is technically a champion, having captured the NABF junior flyweight title in his sixth pro bout. And as we reported, Vasquez will soon be part of Al Haymon’s “Premier Boxing Champions” movement, with his likely return date to be on the undercard of the Oct. 14 Devon Alexander vs. Aaron Martinez bill in Glendale, Ariz.

At Hustle Boss we have had the pleasure of covering the career of young Damien “Sugar” Vasquez over the past few years, dating back to even before his pro debut when he was still 16 years old

Now 7-0 with 3 knockouts as a professional, and having won the NABF junior flyweight title in his sixth bout, there are several big changes taking place within Vasquez’s career.

Hustle Boss caught up with rising talent Damien ‘Sugar’ Vasquez recently inside of the Top Rank Gym out in Las Vegas.

Vasquez (7-0, 3 KO’s), who just recently turned 18 years old, is coming off of the first defense of his NABF junior flyweight, as he pounded out an eight-round unanimous decision victory over Edwin Reyes, a man ten years his senior, on March 14 at Sam Town’s Hotel and Casino.

From the minute I crossed paths with Damien “Sugar” Vasquez, I could tell instantly that he was on a fast track towards the championship ranks.

Still just an amateur at the time, having just turned 16, young Vasquez had a poise about himself that offset him from most prospects his age and I became intrigued as to what his professional career would hold.

Later tonight, inside of the Masonic Temple in Detroit, Mich., 17-year old Damien ‘Sugar’ Vasquez was scheduled to make the first defense of his NABF flyweight title vs. Lorenzo Trejo.

We swung through the Top Rank Gym late last month to check out Vasquez in training and he was definitely sharp, as he put in work with tough local fighter Sergio Lopez while his team of Ismael Salas, Miguel Diaz, and Richie Sandoval watched on.
