The reports vary every day and there is no real certainty that we will  be seeing Floyd Mayweather face off with Manny Pacquiao in 2015 or at all.

The latest buzz has Mayweather possibly meeting up with Puerto Rico’s Miguel Cotto on May 2 in a rematch of their intense 2012 encounter that Floyd won via unanimous decision.

As the weekend came to a close out in Las Vegas, the boxing world also took notice of a new heavyweight champion of the world in Deontay Wilder, who snatched the WBC crown from Bermane Stiverne with a 12-round unanimous decision from the MGM Grand.

With Wilder’s victory now behind us, boxing looks forward to both his future as a champion as well as what other high-profile matches may be good for the sport.

Having led his star fighter, two-division titlist Tim Bradley, into battle against Manny Pacquiao twice in a two-year period, trainer Joel Diaz knows all too well of the abilities of the Filipino icon.

Pacquiao has no bigger option on the table other than a dream fight with Floyd Mayweather. The talk surrounding the matchup, one that has been discussed for the past five years, is very high again yet Diaz is unsure what to think of all the discussion.

For revered trainer Robert Garcia, he knows all too well the difficulty of preparing for a match with either Floyd Mayweather or Manny Pacquiao, the two men regarded as the best of this generation.

Garcia led Marcos Maidana into battle twice last year vs. Manyweather, as the Argentinean lost decision verdicts to the Grand Rapids native in May and September despite spirited efforts. And in November of 2013, Garcia was in the corner of Brandon Rios in Macau, China as Pacquiao won a whitewash decision against the former lightweight titlist.

The first time I recall seeing Chris Algieri in person was sometime in late 2013 or early 2014 ahead of his victory over Emmanuel Taylor.

I knew right off hand that the Huntington native was a tough guy simply because of who he was in the ring with, as Algieri could be found slugging it out with rock solid Ugandan contender Sharif Bogere inside of the Long Life Fit Gym (now called ‘Long Life Fighter Gym‘).

Boxing is a sport full of brazen individuals and strong personalities, so respect is something that isn’t always dished out.

While he will never be confused for a diehard Manny Pacquiao fan,  veteran trainer and former two-division world champion Roger Mayweather has seemed to gain a little bit of respect for the Filipino icon in recent times.

Pacquiao is fresh off of a 12-round blitzing of gritty but outmatched Chris Algieri in Macau, China this past weekend and Roger feels that the eight-division champion from General Santos City is ready for a crack at the man regarded as the best fighter in the world, his nephew Floyd.

This past Saturday night, in Macau, China, eight-division world champion Manny Pacquiao again reminded the world why he is one of the game’s most dominant prizefighters with his 12-round domination over brave Chris Algieri.
