“He was as good a student as Manny Pacquiao” – Freddie Roach still believes that he’s the best fit for Chavez Jr.

There’s no denying that the tandem of Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. and Freddie Roach had great success during their two and a half year run together.

Having welcomed Chavez into his Wild Card Boxing Club in Los Angeles in late April of 2010, Roach understood that the young fighter had been rumored to be lethargic and uncooperative in camp. Still, Roach was able to sharpen his skills as Chavez continued his unbeaten streak while claiming the WBC middleweight crown as well.

Chavez was hit with a huge blow to his ego and career this past September when he was thoroughly outclassed over eleven and half rounds by Argentina’s Sergio Martinez before a knockdown and rally in the twelfth round came up short. The young prizefighter from Sinaloa, Mexico suffered his first professional defeat, losing a lopsided decision.

Word later leaked that Chavez was set to fire Roach, with either Nacho Beristain or Robert Garcia likely to fill his void.

Roach is unsure of where everything stands and still seems to hold on to extreme disappointment as to how the training camp for Martinez unraveled

“The bottom line is, I love Ice & I can understand why he’s so upset,” she explained. “There’s no excuse for my actions. I’m so sorry baby & to everyone. Ice is right the pics I took with this man were in poor taste & I disrespected my husband. However, the pics were the only thing that happened.”

In February of 2009, the relationship between aspiring music stars Chris Brown and Rihanna came to a shocking end. Following pre-Grammy Awards party, there was an altercation that took place, with Brown later admitting to beating Rihanna.

While there were some who were crushed to see the couple separate, they still held on to the hope that they would someday reconcile.

In October of last year, Rihanna and Chris were spotted together at various locations in New York and have since continued to remain close. In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Rihanna even revealed why she has taken Chris back into her life.

On Tuesday afternoon, I caught up with Top Rank CEO Bob Arum inside of the main lobby of the Venetian Resort Hotel Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.

While Arum was anticipating the grand arrival of his latest signee, former two-time gold medalist Zou Shiming from China, he took a few moments to address the latest developments with another one of his star fighters, Nonito Donaire.

Donaire is presently eyeing an April return to the ring, with reports having either a clash with WBA junior featherweight champion Guillermo Rigondeaux or a rematch with former titlist Vic Darchinyan on tap.

There has been plenty of confusion taking place in the camp of Rigondeaux, from his issues with Miami-based Caribe Promotions to the Cuban bringing in the services of trainer Pedro Diaz at the expense of his former coach Jorge Rubio.

“That will be decided by the end of the week,” Arum said when discussing the situation. “We have made an offer to Rigondeaux and we’re waiting to see if he accepts.”

Lakers without Metta World Peace, star suspended one game for hitting Brandon Knight

The Los Angeles Lakers will be shorthanded tonight against the Brooklyn Nets, as it has been reported that forward Metta World Peace has been suspended one game.

According to a statement released by NBA Executive Vice President of Basketball Operations Stu Jackson, World Peace has been suspended one game without pay for grabbing Brandon Knight of the Detroit Pistons around the neck and striking him in the jaw.

The incident occurred during the second quarter of the Lakers 98-97 win over Detroit on Sunday, Feb. 3. Shortly following the incident, game officials reviewed the play on the monitors and declared it a flagrant 1 foul.

That didn’t sit too well with Knight, however, as he complained after the game and asked for the league to review the play.

“The play needs to be reviewed because he definitely threw a punch,” exclaimed the second-year guard from Kentucky “It felt like he threw a punch. That’s why I reacted the way I did. The play was over and he grabbed me around the neck.

“If someone grabs you around the neck, you’re not going to let that happen. You do what you need to get that person off you.”

The suspension comes at a critical time for the Lakers, who are also without center Dwight Howard.

Metta World Peace has been averaging 13.2 points and 5.7 rebounds so far this season.
