It’s been a few years now that Hustle Boss has been in the trenches with UK star and top-flight junior welterweight contender Ashley “Treasure” Theophane.

Around the time we first started corresponding with Theophane, around early 2012 I would reckon, he was in town for some training at the Mayweather Boxing Club in hopes of keeping his career alive. Theophane was then an unsigned free agent with a checkered record and there was no clear direction on where his career was heading.

Floyd Mayweather is still less than two weeks removed from his official retirement, as the Grand Rapids native insists he is done with the sport of boxing following his 49th professional victory over Andre Berto on Sep. 12 in Las Vegas.

Mayweather bested Berto over 12 rounds, capturing a unanimous decision by scores of 120-108, 118-1110, and 117-111 inside of the MGM Grand Garden Arena. Now 49-0 as a professional with 26 knockouts behind him, Mayweather closed the final bout of his six-fight deal with SHOWTIME by defeating Berto and he presently has no obligations to get back into the ring.

Mayweather is less than two weeks removed from his 49th professional bout, as he scored a unanimous decision victory over Andre Berto on Sep. 12 inside of the MGM Grand Garden Arena. Mayweather was his typical self with Berto, as he focused on his defense while chosing the right moments to open up and engage.

It’s been about four years since Santiago (18-3-1, 8 KO’s) walked through the doors of the Mayweather Boxing Club in Las Vegas, Nev. and the 24-year old hasn’t left anything to waste during his training in that time.

Having won his last seven bouts, Santiago’s spirits are as high as ever with the recent news of his signing with Mayweather Promotions. The Phoenix native’s first assignment under his new promoter is a Sept. 8 date in Hollywood, Calif. against Fernando Lumacad from the Philippines.

Cotto (40-4, 33 KO’s) is the reigning WBC middleweight champion and will be looking for a second successful defense of his title vs. the younger Alvarez (45-1-1, 32 KO’s) on HBO pay per view in one of the year’s biggest events.

It had been a while since we’ve been in the trenches with top-flight junior welterweight prospect Semajay Thomas.

The Chicago native, now 6-0 with 4 knockouts as a professional, has a great pedigree behind him no matter how you cut it. One of Thomas’ mentors in his amateur days was and still is Nate Jones, the former heavyweight contender who captured bronze in the 1996 Olympics and now stands as one of the game’s emerging young trainers.

In what may be his final performance in the ring, Mayweather’s media day was a little more laid-back compared to usual, as he engaged in some sparring with stablemates Ramon Montano and “Dangerous” Don Moore.

On Saturday night, in Brooklyn, New York, former junior welterweight champion Danny “Swift” Garcia (31-0, 18 KO’s) stopped former two-division titlist Paulie Malignaggi (33-7, 7 KO’s) in the ninth round of their welterweight bout.

The bout was part of a “Premier Boxing Champions” show on ESPN and after a slow start, Garcia picked up the steam and repeatedly hurt Malignaggi. Referee Arthuer Mercante Jr. waived the match off at 2:22 of the round, with Malignaggi still on his feet.

No matter what time of the year it is, you are always sure to catch decorated trainer and former light heavyweight world champion Eddie Mustafa Muhammad working with a bevy of prospects and contenders.

A throwback luminary in the boxing world, Muhammad held the WBA crown at 175 pounds in the early 80’s and has since transitioned into one of the game’s most recognized trainers, as he now works with super middleweight contenders such as J’Leon Love and Ronald Gavril, light heavyweight contender Lionell Thompson, undefeated middleweight prospect Quatavious Cash, undefeated junior middleweight Thomas Hill, as well as WBC super middleweight champion Badou Jack.
