Canelo Alvarez Dominates Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. in Las Vegas [Post-Fight Coverage]

On Saturday night, May 6, Mexican superstar and junior middleweight world champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez dominated an outmatched former middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. over twelve one-sided rounds. Alvarez (49-1-1, 34 KO’s) was far too strong, poised, and precise throughout their HBO pay per view matchup inside of the T-Mobile arena in Las Vegas, Nev.

With over 20,500 partisans in attendance for another wild Cinco De Mayo weekend, Alvarez proved himself to be far superior in every category, often tagging Chavez with sharp blows. Following twelve rounds, scores of 120-108 were read across the board for the Jalisco-born fighter, who continues to cement himself as the sport’s biggest star.

On Friday afternoon, May 5, WBO junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and former WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. weighed in ahead of their anticipated HBO pay per view showdown from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Inside of the MGM Grand Garden Arena, Canelo (48-1-1, 34 KO’s) and Chavez (50-2-1, 32 KO’s), both weighed in at 164 pounds, exactly half a pound under the 164.5 catch-weight limit they agreed to.

On Wednesday afternoon, WBO junior middleweight world champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and former WBC junior middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. came face to face at their final press conference ahead of their big match this weekend. The two fighters face off on Saturday, May 6 from the T-Mobile Arena on HBO pay per view.

Alvarez (48-1-1, 34 KO’s) and Chavez (50-2-1, 32 KO’s) both understand the importance of this matchup and they are each carrying a professional, subdued approach as the days go by.

Another Fight Week has hit the town of Las Vegas, as WBO junior middleweight champion Canelo Alvarez faces off with former WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. inside of the T-Mobile Arena on Saturday night on HBO pay per view.

Alvarez (48-1-1, 34 KO’s) and Chavez (50-2-1, 32 KO’s) made their official grand arrivals to Las Vegas on Tuesday afternoon. Not much animosity to sense in the air, as each man seems calm and focused just days away from the big match.

On Saturday night, Sep. 17, Mexican superstar Saul “Canelo” Alvarez captured the WBO junior welterweight title from Liverpool’s Liam “Beefy” Smith via ninth round TKO inside of the AT&T Stadium in  Arlington, Tex.

Alvarez (48-1-1, 34 KO’s) was precise throughout the contest, building up an early lead off of his combination-punching and work to the body. Smith was a brave opponent in the face of such firepower, but was never able to get his game plan on track.

On Tuesday, May 3, WBC middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and former junior welterweight champion Amir Khan made their grand arrival to Las Vegas ahead of their HBO pay per view clash this Saturday night from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nev.

Canelo (46-1-1, 32 KO’s) and Khan (31-3, 19 KO’s) are both exuding extreme confidence ahead of this matchup, although Alvarez is the clear betting favorite to his obvious advantage in size. Canelo is coming off of one of his most complete performances to date, as he defeated Puerto Rico’s Miguel Cotto over 12 rounds this past November.

As reported by Hustle Boss earlier this month, Vasquez will be facing off with tough veteran Lorenzo Trejo on May 7 in Longmont, Color. in a stacked card. Vasquez (8-0, 3 KO’s) captued the NABF junior flyweight belt in just his sixth pro bout and will be putting his strap on the line against Trejo (35-31-1, 22 KO’s) in a matchup that has been long overdue.

On Saturday night, Nov. 21, Mexican superstar Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez delivered his biggest career victory to date by defeating former WBC middleweight champion and four-division titlist Miguel Cotto over 12 rounds inside of the Mandalay Bay Casino & Resort in Las Vegas, Nev.

With the win, live on HBO pay per view, Canelo (46-1-1, 32 KO’s) captures the aforementioned WBC belt and sees his career ascend to a new level. As for Cotto, he drops to 40-5 with 33 knockouts following this contest.

At just 25 years old and sporting a 45-1-1 record with 32 knockouts, Alvarez stands as one of the future faces of the sport of boxing, yet there is a lot on the line for him in this match. The simple fact that two of Golden Boy Promotions’ top stars, Lucas Matthysse and David Lemieux, suffered stoppage losses this month puts more pressure on Alvarez to perform against Cotto.

Earlier today, from Madison Square Garden in New York City, WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin and IBF middleweight titlist David Lemieux made weight ahead of their HBO pay per view showdown on Saturday night.

Golovkin (33-0, 30 KO’s) hit the scales weighing 159.4 pounds while Lemieux (34-2, 31 KO’s) stripped down to get to 159.8 pounds.

A very intriguing fight in the middleweight division will be going down, as it was announced by Golden Boy Promotions and Eye of the Tiger Management that David Lemieux (33-2, 31 KO’s) and Hassan N’Dam N’Jikam (31-1, 18 KO’s) will be facing off for the vacant IBF middleweight title.

Lemieux is a hot ticket in the sport and presently riding an eight-fight winning streak, with seven of the victories coming by way of stoppage. His last fight was an entertaining 10th round TKO over the very rugged Gabriel Rosado on HBO. Lemieux brings a very stout punch with him into the ring but he will certainly have his mettle tested with N’Dam.

According to a report from Steve Kim at BoxingScene.com, it looks as though former junior middleweight champion Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez may be facing off with all-action James Kirkland on May 2 in San Antonio inside of the Alamodome.

The fight is on the verge of being finalized, according to sources, and the news is surprising given how much hope people were having on Alvarez meeting up with Miguel Cotto on May 2 before those negotiations fell apart.
